I founded The New Modernist out of a lifelong obsession with design and with the way the right objects can transform a space. After ten years in New York working with legendary 20th-century design dealer Alan Moss, and earning my Master’s in 20th-Century Design through the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, I set out to build a space that celebrates modern design in all its expressive forms.
What began as a small Cape Town showroom grew into a full design studio, and today, in Portland, Oregon, The New Modernist has become a destination for contemporary homeware and art, the finishing touches that make a space come alive.
I curate every piece with an eye for bold form, vibrant color, and fearless individuality. From sculptural ceramics and handblown glass to tactile textiles and crafted furniture, everything in the collection has a voice of its own. I’m drawn to work that’s playful yet refined, grounded in the honesty of its materials; glass, concrete, wool and clay. Objects designed to be lived with, not just looked at.
For me, modernism has never been about minimalism, it’s about clarity, confidence, and personality. The New Modernist is where those ideas come together: a place to discover the pieces that complete your home and express your style, in your own, unapologetic way.
